Dr Martina Calore (Department of Molecular Genetics) is one of the partners of the international consortium that was funded with 4 million euros by the European Innovation Council for cardiogenomics for the research project, named IMPACT - Cardiogenomics meets Artificial Intelligence: a step forward in arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy diagnosis and treatment. 

The international team, led by Professor Alessandra Rampazzo of the Department of Biology at the University of Padua and composed of researchers from Universiteit Maastricht , Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht, Lutech Group, Italbiotec Consortium, Ksilink and Italfarmaco, will study the development of new therapies for arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM), a genetic disease that affects the heart and represents one of the main causes of ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. With an incidence of 1 in 5000, it can be considered a highly relevant cardiovascular disease.

Within IMPACT, Dr. Martina Calore will contribute to the identification of deregulated microRNAs that will be next tested as a novel therapeutic approach for the disease. The project that will run for 36 months.
