Dekker Senior Scientist grant Matthijs Cluitmans
The Dutch Heart Foundation has awarded researcher Dr Matthijs Cluitmans a Dekker Senior Scientist grant. With this personal research grant of € 553,000, he will be able to conduct research on cardiovascular diseases in the coming years.
In the Netherlands, more than 90 people are admitted to the hospital each day with a heart attack. This damages their heart muscle, increasing their risk of a life-threatening cardiac arrest. Matthijs wants to investigate whether he can predict the actual risk for each patient using a very detailed heart scan. People with a high risk of cardiac arrest can then receive a life-saving ICD.
